Rehab Enhanced by Parallel Bars at PCH/FMC

ImageNew 16-foot parallel bars are enhancing the care of physical rehabilitation patients at Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center.

Installed recently, these bars provide room for two or three patients to receive therapy at the same time, according to Jane Edwards, manager of Rehabilitation Service.

“Not only are the bars adjustable for different heights, but the apparatus is also wheelchair friendly,” said Edwards, who pointed out the advantages of the new apparatus.

She explained that the hospital therapy department has many orthopaedic patients, particularly for knee and hip replacements.

“These bars provide stability exercises, for balance and walking mainly,” the licensed physical therapist said of their practical use.
“Rehab patients practice with the support of these bars before they begin with crutches,” she explained.

The physical therapy department is conveniently located in the West Wing of the hospital’s main floor, with an accessible entrance and parking available.
