New officers for PCH/FMC volunteers “Volunteers color our world and make it a better place,” said Mary Ann Pearman Sept. 14 as she conducted installation of new officers for the volunteers at Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center. For the coming year, the volunteers at the medical facility will be led by president Helen McMullen, vice president Janet Abernathy, secretary Sharon Wilken, and treasurer Pat Spillman. As a daily routine during the week at the hospital, rotating volunteers fulfill a number of needs by staffing and conducting mail delivery, front desk information, gift shop, surgery waiting rooms, patient needs, clerical assistance, as well as outside work such as landscape and filling bird feeders. The group is comprised of over 80 members and welcomes new members at any time. Volunteers meet at 1:30 p.m. in Conference Room A, the second Monday of every other month, beginning in January. Pearman described the individual jobs of each officer with a color analogy. Green is for the treasurer, the color of evergreens, and an ongoing resource through all seasons, she said. With lavender rests the responsibility of recording the history of this organization. Blue is for the vice chairman as helpmate, representing assistance, guidance, and nurture. Finally, white for the president is a combination of all the colors, the light that leads. Approximately 30 volunteers and hospital representatives were present for the September meeting and installation ceremony. Typical meetings include discussion of changes in the hospital that affect the volunteers, updates on policies, and discussion of plans for the gift shop, dues, and fund-raising efforts. Some of the proceeds collected during the year are given to the hospital for items that are beyond the standard budget. The next upcoming event for the hospital volunteers is the annual Book Fair, a fund-raiser which is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, near the hospital entrance. The public is invited.
